Head of Manufacturing and Production
 
Location: Southampton area
 
Hours of work : 38.5 hours per week
 
Salary: £50000 -£55000 per annum plus fantastic benefits

Due to business change and huge success our client is looking to recruit a Head Of Manufacturing and Production to join their business
 
 
As Head of Manufacturing and Production you will be responsible for

Working as part of the Senior Management team, to support with the growth and development of the business and you will take responsibility for ensuring that the site follows a path of continuous improvement by implementing best practice through the application of innovative and motivational leadership whilst promoting a supportive, rewarding and inclusive culture.
 
You will be responsible for driving performance and quality whilst delivering for SMC’s International Customer Base. 
 
Key Responsibilities Include  

Quality Control & Health and Safety - Managing all quality and health and safety processes and procedures across the business to ensure compliance with company, customer and legal requirements. Developing and implementing a HS and QC plan to update the company to latest specifications.
 
Purchasing - Develop and manage Strategic supplier agreements. Ensure that materials and parts are delivered into SMC on time, to best price and quality to meet company production needs. 
 
Stores / Goods in / Goods Out – Implement and manage stock control / goods in goods out procedures.
 
  • Responsible for ensuring that material is planned and available for build requirements.  Meet production plans by ensuring Customer deadlines are met in full and on time. 
  • Develop and ensure full material location system that links with the MRP system to give full traceability of material, inventory levels & consumables.   
  • Responsible for rolling stock counts and the full annual stock count.
 
Production / Machine shop / Mast and Antenna assembly and testing – Develop first class manufacturing processes and procedures to ensure SMC product is delivered on time and to the highest quality.
 
  • Implement Production build plans to ensure customer requirements are being achieved in line with current lead times.
  • Responsible for the production performance in line with the company KPI’s
  • Develop and lead process improvement activity to ensure build processes achieving a reduction in lead times and improved efficiencies.
 
 
Engineering / Technical – Manage the Engineering / technical team to ensure products are designed to meet best engineering practice, client specification requirements and agreed cost levels. Strengthen and manage the new product development process so that new ideas / developments are evaluated, designed, cost managed and implemented into the company’s product portfolio in a fully controlled manor.

This role is both strategic and most importantly a role that requires hard-work, dedication and a roll your sleeves up attitude.   This is about delivering on a daily, weekly, monthly basis to ensure the Team meets the needs of the business.
 
The role requires a knowledge of a broad range of metal and / or plastic products. You should also possess excellent leadership skills with a strong mix of operational, commercial and financial acumen and the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
 
You will also require / have
 
  • Degree in Operations Management / Engineering OR proven experience at Operations / Production Manager Level.
  • Relevant H&S qualification. NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.
  • You will be self-motivated, results orientated, and thrive on working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lead by example to develop a problem solving and continuous improvement culture that drives efficiency and reduces lead time through clear expectations and accountability.    
  • Become a Role model for best practice Health & Safety and Environmental with the team ensuring all team members are fully adhering to policies and procedures. Lead by example in demonstrating honesty and integrity.
  • Maintain and develop organisational culture, values and reputation in its markets and with all staff, customers and suppliers.
  • Proven leadership - You need to have experience in controlling a business unit, full profit and loss responsibility as well as the day to day running.
  • You will thrive working with multiple teams, offering excellent communication lines and a clear sense of direction and purpose to maximise the performances within your content production team in working towards a common goal.
  • You will be a proven, performance driven leader, with vast experience of managing a manufacturing team.
